How To Insert Contact Lenses

Inserting contact lenses requires proper hygiene and care to avoid irritation or infection. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to insert contact lenses. Additionally, please view this video for a tutorial.

Before you begin:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Dry them with a clean, lint-free towel.

  2. Make sure your contact lenses are clean and free of any debris.

Step 1: Set up your workspace:

  1. Find a well-lit area with a flat surface.

  2. Have a mirror available to help you see what you're doing.

Step 2: Prepare your contact lenses:

  1. Ensure you are using the correct lens for each eye.

  2. Place the lens on the tip of your index or middle finger. If your lens is inside out, it will look like a bowl with the edges flaring out slightly. If it's the correct way, the edges will appear straight.

Step 3: Use your non-dominant hand to hold your eyelids:

  1. Use the middle finger of your non-dominant hand to gently pull down your lower eyelid.

  2. Use the fingers of your dominant hand to hold your upper eyelid open.

Step 4: Insert the lens:

  1. Look straight ahead into the mirror.

  2. Use the fingers of your dominant hand to gently place the lens on the colored part of your eye (iris).

  3. Release your eyelids slowly and blink a few times to allow the lens to settle.

Step 5: Blink and check:

  1. Blink several times to help the lens center on your eye.

  2. If you feel any discomfort or if your vision is blurry, the lens may not be centered properly. Use your fingertip to gently move the lens into the correct position.

Repeat the process for the other eye.
